Rita Azevedo Gomes has maintained a diverse activity connected to the arts. Always motivated by curiosity, she advocates for work based on experimentation and a continued search for forms of expression. Throughout the years, she has developed projects in cinema, theatre, opera, plastic arts, and graphic arts (namely in publications by the Cinemateca and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation). After her first film, O Som da Terra a Tremer, 1990, she directed multiple films which, despite usually being based on literary works, always result in cinematographic works which reflect an independent character and her artistic intuition. She does programming for the Cinemateca Portuguesa, where she is also in charge of exhibitions. Currently, she is finalizing her latest film, A Portuguesa, shot in the Autumn of 2017.
