Paulo wrote and directed Amor Cego, 2010, 25’ (grand prize of the jury at Festival Córtex). He wrote and directed Zeus, 2017, 117’ (9 national and 4 international prizes).
He studied cinema in Portugal, Italy, France and the USA. As a screenwriter, he wrote 7 other films: O Fim do Mundo (1993), Os Olhos da Ásia (1996) and Longe da Vista (1998), directed by João Mário Grilo; As Contas do Morto, by Rita Nunes, 2002; 451 Forte, by João Mário Grilo, 2002; A Hora da Morte, by José Nascimento, 2002; Os Sorrisos do Destino, by Fernando Lopes, 2009. He was President of the Portuguese Association of Screenwriters and Playwrigths; founder and member of the board (in 2005) of the Federation of European Scriptwriters.
He was an actor in 4 feature films by João Botelho and in 6 others, Portuguese and Spanish.
He directed 16 theatre plays; he was an actor in some of them, as well as in shows by other directors. He has done dramaturgy for dance and in 2010 he was to Wuppertal to follow the work of Pina Bausch.
He is full professor at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where he teaches Portuguese cinema, screenwriting and performing arts. He has published several books and essays on those subjects.
